Day 7

Scripture to Read: John 1:16–18

Christ came to give His life so that everyone made in His image could have life eternal through Him. Real life is not possible apart from Christ. Even when we consider the reason that we were created, we have no real purpose apart from Christ because everything this world offers us is fleeting/temporary/short-lived and only leaves us empty and wanting for something more! But, through Christ, we have a purpose, and because He fills us with Himself through His Holy Spirit, life is meaningful. As God led John to write, we read in John 1:16–18, “For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace. 17 For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him.” God, through Christ, has so richly blessed us that we’ve been given an overflowing abundance of His grace and truth. To receive “grace upon grace” means we have God’s richest spiritual blessings, favor, and gifts. Again, it all starts with Him coming to live in us (1 Corinthians 3:16, 1 Corinthians 6:19–20) and Him filling us with all of His characteristics and everything we need to live this life for His glory and honor (Galatians 5:22–23, 2 Peter 1:3–4). God used Moses to share His Law with the Israelites, but then God the Father sent Christ to fully reveal Himself so all could know and experience His grace and truth.

Challenge & Application

• Why can’t this world offer us anything that gives us everlasting satisfaction? • What all has God the Father given us through Christ, and how has your life changed because of it all?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

John is one of the original 12 disciples of Christ. God led John to write the Book of John, 1 John, 2 John, 3 John, and Revelation. John lovingly refers to himself in the Book of John as one of the disciples “whom Jesus loved” (John 13:23, John 19:26, John 20:2, John 21:7, John 21:20). So, John had a beautiful understanding of how much Christ...

Day 2

Knowing Christ is God is essential to our faith. With all of the religions in the world claiming to be “a way” to God or “a way” to heaven or “a way” to escape eternal punishment, we know that Christ is “The Way” and that there is no other way. As God the Holy Spirit led John to write, we read in John 1:4–5, “In Him was life, and the life was...

Day 3

God uses all of us, as Christians, to proclaim our Lord Jesus Christ to this lost world and each other as we walk with Him each day. God used John the Baptist to proclaim that Jesus is the Christ, the One prophesied about throughout the Old Testament. God had John write in John 1:6–8, “There came a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He...

Day 4

Christ came to this world to set every captive free from our bondage to sin and its power. As we saw yesterday, God called John the Baptist to proclaim Christ’s arrival, knowing Christ came to fulfill the Father’s perfect will. We find this prophecy about our Lord Jesus Christ in Isaiah 61:1, “The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because th...

Day 5

When Christ first came to this world, He came to His chosen people, the nation of Israel. The Israelites, especially the religious leaders, knew the prophecies in the Old Testament about their coming Messiah. There are around 360-plus prophecies about the coming Messiah in the Old Testament. So, when Christ came to this world, He came just as...

Day 6

God led John to come back to Christ as being fully God and fully man. We read in John 1:14–15, “And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15 John *testified about Him and cried out, saying, ‘This was He of whom I said,’ ‘He who comes after me ha...
