Day 1

Scripture to Read: Revelation 3:14

We are on the last of the seven churches that Jesus wrote to in Revelation 2 & 3. This week we see all that our Lord had to say to the church of Laodicea. Just so we are aware, the letter in Revelation 3:14-22 was written to the church in Laodicea (Laodicea was an important, wealthy city with a significant Jewish population). Our Lord Jesus Christ begins His letter to the church of Laodicea with this in Revelation 3:14,“ To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: The Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God, says this.” Several things stand out in Christ’s introduction to Laodicea. Jesus identifies Himself as the “Amen.” “Amen” means “so be it” or “it is done.” Jesus also calls Himself “the Beginning of the creation.” Jesus lets it be known from these two descriptions that He is God’s perfect and final revelation and that all was created through Him (Colossians 1:15-17). God says it this way in 2 Corinthians 1:20, For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for His glory. (NLT) Jesus also calls Himself “the faithful and true Witness.” Jesus is God the Father's reliable witness which means He never veers from the truth (Hebrews 13:8, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever) because He is Truth (John 14:6). He is the only One we must cling to and trust in each day of our lives.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about Who He is as the “Amen,” the “faithful and true Witness,” and “the Beginning of the creation?” 2. How are you clinging to and trusting in Christ alone, knowing Who He is and all that He has done for you?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 2

Yesterday we saw how our Lord Jesus Christ introduced Himself. After Christ’s introduction, He lets the church at Laodicea know that He knows their works and He rebuked them for being apathetic towards Him. The problem with the people in Laodicea was that they dishonored God by honoring false “gods.” Jesus calls them “lukewarm.” This is the s...

Day 3

We saw yesterday the usefulness of hot and cold water and the uselessness of lukewarm water. Because the church in Laodicea was “lukewarm,” Jesus told them He would spit them out of His mouth. When we are “lukewarm” we become useless, just like lukewarm water is useless to most people. The church at Corinth had become “fleshly” and was rebuke...

Day 4

We continue our walk through Revelation 3:14-22. We know the church at Laodicea was “lukewarm” and had become useless to the Master’s service, all the while thinking they were fine. The city of Laodicea was abundantly rich from the world's point of view, so they thought they needed nothing. Being rich with this world's goods is not bad as lon...

Day 5

As we ended yesterday’s devotion, God taught us how the church in Laodicea was wretched, poor, blind, miserable, and naked. Jesus calls everyone who calls themselves a Christian to be fully SOLD OUT to Him. Jesus said it like this in Luke 9:23, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me...

Day 6

As we read Revelation 3:19, we see that Jesus also tells the church at Laodicea that He disciplines those He loves. God also makes this truth clear in Hebrews 12:6-8, “For those whom the Lord loves He disciplines, and He scourges every son whom He receives.” 7 It is for discipline that you endure; God deals with you as with sons; for what son...

Day 7

We end with a beautiful invitation from our Lord Jesus Christ. The invitation from our Lord is not just for the church at Laodicea, but His invitation is to everyone who needs Him. The beauty of our Lord is that He knocks continually on the door of each person’s heart so that those who do not know Him will come to know Him, and those of us wh...
