Day 1

Scripture to Read: Romans 15:1

When we ended last week in Romans 14, God was making sure we understood that it was better not to do something so that a weaker believer would not be caused to stumble. So, we must always consider those around us to ensure we are not a stumbling block to them. With that in mind, God continued to use Paul, as he wrote Romans 15:1, to help all mature believers in Christ know that we must “bear the weaknesses of those without strength and not just please ourselves.” To “bear the weaknesses” of others means we choose to be considerate and patient with those who are weaker in their faith and convictions. Every mature believer was once an immature believer. All of us who have grown in our walk with our Lord remember when we first started as new believers. We were innocent and even ignorant of God’s Truth and who we had become in Christ. But as we have grown and matured, we have learned so much about the fullness of the righteousness, forgiveness, grace, mercy, and peace that we have because of our Lord Jesus Christ. We have become strong in our faith in Christ and His Word, and we walk in the fullness of His Truth because of all He’s taught us over the years. But we must guard against arrogance as if we have matured on our own. We must willingly come alongside new believers and disciple them so they grow up in Christ and His Truth. This is how we “bear the weaknesses of those without strength” and fulfill our Father’s will.

Day 2

God had Paul continue to edify all believers by challenging us to examine our hearts toward others. God had Paul write in Romans 15:2, “Each of us is to please his neighbor for his good, to his edification.” This one scripture verse alone flies in the face of our modern-day culture. We know we are all born into sin and have a selfish nature, ...

Day 3

Yesterday, God challenged us to please our neighbors for their good and to be sure and edify them. Today, as we continue through Romans 15:1–7, God tells us why we are to please our neighbor. God had Paul write in Romans 15:3, For even Christ did not please Himself; but as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached You fell on Me....

Day 4

God has been teaching us about bearing the weaknesses of those who are not as strong in their walk with Him and that we must please others and encourage them above ourselves. We also know that we do these things because it is precisely what our Lord Jesus Christ did for us. God then reminds us (in Romans 15:4) that everything He’s laid out th...

Day 5

As God led Paul to write the book of Romans, God had Paul pray for the believers in Rome, but this is also a prayer for us because God’s Word is everlasting. God led Paul to pray, in Romans 15:5–6, “Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus, 6 so that w...

Day 6

We ended yesterday’s devotion focusing on our Lord’s desire for us to be unified as His children. This is so critically important because when believers live in unity, we are not distracted by selfishness, nor do we lose sight of what God has already told us to do. When we are unified, we love our neighbor as we’re commanded (Matthew 22:39), ...

Day 7

God continues to challenge us in our relationships with each other. As we saw in the last two devotions, God had Paul pray for all believers to be unified and we know how important that is to God. Then God led Paul to write, in Romans 15:7, “Therefore, accept one another, just as Christ also accepted us to the glory of God.” When we accept ea...
