Scripture to Read: 1 Corinthians 8:4
We continue our journey as God used Paul to write His letter to the Christians in Corinth and to us today. As God led Paul to write, we read in 1 Corinthians 8:4, “Therefore concerning the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that there is no such thing as an idol in the world, and that there is no God but one.” God had Paul get right to the point in reminding all of the Christians in Corinth that an idol is not a god and that there is only one God. Often today, Christians get worried about cults and those who worship Satan, but why should we ever worry about any false religion or about what that false religion is doing or teaching? We all know there is only one God and Father and one Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. God had Paul write it this way in Ephesians 4:4–6, “There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.” We worship the one true God and have a relationship with Him through our Lord Jesus Christ because His Holy Spirit lives in us. God is over all things seen and unseen and we can rest in Him. God also wanted the Christians in Corinth to understand this truth. As Christians, we must guard our hearts and minds against being distracted by things that just don’t matter.
Challenge & Application
As Christians, why do we often get distracted by things that really don’t matter in the realm of eternity?
How can we guard our hearts and minds so that we stay focused on what God has for us to accomplish?
