Day 2

Scripture to Read: 1 Peter 2:5

In 1 Peter 2:5, God the Father shows us that to follow Christ means to be conformed to His image, "you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ." As Jesus was called "a living stone," all followers of Christ are "like living stones." Our Lord calls us to be imitators of Him (Ephesians 5:1); therefore, like living stones, we are part of His household and together, we make up His house. What a great reminder of the importance of the church community in this Christian life. When a person believes in Christ as Lord and Savior (John 3:16), they are set free from the power and penalty of sin and are brought into God's family. The Holy Spirit of God used to come down into God's temple once a year, but now He dwells in us, for we are God's temple (1 Corinthians 3:16; 1 Corinthians 6:19-20; Hebrews 10:1-25). The reason the Holy Spirit indwells all believers is so that we would see our identity as a holy priesthood, living a life pleasing to God. As we live out our identity, the spiritual sacrifices we offer are accepted by God because of what Christ has done. All believers must see that God has given us our church community and that He has called us to live for Him and offer our lives for the sake of the gospel. We must live as sacrifices for Christ, knowing the Holy Spirit lives in us to live as the family of God.

Challenge & Application

1. We, as believers, are to be conformed to Christ, imitators of Him; so, how do you imitate Christ each day through your life? 2. Since we are God’s temple, we find our identity in Christ; so, how are you walking in the holiness living in you?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

In today's devotion, God makes it clear that those who have tasted that our Lord is good are those who have surrendered to Christ as Lord (Psalm 34:8; 1 Peter 2:3). But, for all of us who have tasted our Lord's goodness, we must realize that God's way is not man's way. As our Lord spoke to the first believers suffering for their faith, and as...

Day 3

So far, God has used the imagery of the "living stone" to describe our Lord Jesus Christ and remind us, as His followers, that we are "like living stones." God's purpose for doing this is to show all believers how Jesus Christ fulfills the Old Testament prophecies of “the living stone.” In 1 Peter 2:6, God led Peter to quote Isaiah 28:16, "Fo...

Day 4

Yesterday we learned how those who believe in Jesus as the Cornerstone are never put to shame in God the Father. Today, the Lord clearly shows us what happens to those who choose not to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as being their King and Lord. Those who choose not to believe in Christ will not receive honor, and they will stumble because...

Day 5

As God's children, we are called to live holy, blameless, obedient lives to Him as our Heavenly Father. God shows us throughout His Word that we are to live holy and we've already seen it here in 1 Peter 1. Today, in 1 Peter 2:9, our Lord says, "But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His own possession." Go...

Day 6

As God's people, He has given us an identity to carry out His mission. So, as we know who we are as His people, we choose to live out His mission as well. We see God's purpose for our lives in the second part of 1 Peter 2:9, "that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light." So, God has gi...

Day 7

For the last two days, we have looked at our identity, which we have as God's children. We have also clearly seen the mission God has called us to fulfill. Since we have this new identity in Christ and have been called on this incredible mission for God, we need to remember that the only reason we can do this is that Christ has transformed us...
