Day 6

Scripture to Read: 1 Thessalonians 1:4-7

God wants us to know that He chose us long before we ever chose Him. We’ve all heard, over and over again, that God loves us. We know it in our head, but often our heart doubts His love. But we see in 1 Thessalonians 1:4 that He really did choose us first. He chose us, even when we were still dead in our sin. He has chosen the entire human race and now He is waiting for each human to choose Him back. We, as His children, must continually share the Gospel (Good News) with everyone we meet so that each have the choice of choosing God as we have done. The words we share must also be evident in the way we live. Note in 1 Thessalonians 1:5 how God led Paul to declare to the believers in Thessalonica that he, Silvanus, and Timothy did not just share the Good News, but they lived it too. Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy were such good examples that the new believers in Thessalonica began imitating them and our Lord, through their words and actions. The new believers in Thessalonica were facing major persecution for their faith in Christ, but the persecution did not stop them from walking with our Lord. These believers in Thessalonica walked in the joy and power of God’s Holy Spirit in them. Those believers lived their lives for Christ so well that they became examples to other believers as well. God wants us to live our lives for Him so well that we also are worthy examples to follow.

Day 1

All of God’s Word is given by God, through His Holy Spirit, and penned by men. God makes this clear in 2 Peter 1:20-21 “But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, 21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.” God also proclaim...

Day 2

When we consider what God led Paul to write in verse 2, it is quite humbling. God led Paul to say he, Silvanus, and Timothy ALWAYS give thanks to God for ALL of the believers in Thessalonica. The believers in Thessalonica were not perfect because they were just like us. The early believers had to crucify the deeds of their flesh daily; they h...

Day 3

As we saw in yesterday’s devotion, we are to be thankful for all the believers God has placed in our lives. We are also to pray for each other as believers. In 1 Thessalonians 1:3, God led Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy to mention three things that they were constantly reminded of about the believers in Thessalonica. We’ll examine the first one ...

Day 4

Today we continue our journey through 1 Thessalonians 1:3, and our focus is on our “labor of love.” God has used two terms here in 1 Thessalonians 1:3 “work” and “labor” so that we realize that living in obedience to Him is not easy. The terms “work” and “labor” remind us that living out our faith and loving others is an act of our will. We m...

Day 5

God finishes 1 Thessalonians 1:3 encouraging the believers in Thessalonica, and us today, through Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy about their “steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.” The hope we are to have in our Lord Jesus Christ is to be unwavering, enduring even when our circumstances in this life do not make sense to us. We are not ...

Day 7

God desires our lives to be lived so fully and completely for Him that our lives “sound forth” for Him. As we saw in yesterday’s devotion, the Gospel was being lived and shared by the new believers in Thessalonica. Today we see in 1 Thessalonians 1:8-10 that the faith of the believers in Thessalonica was spreading way beyond the region in whi...
