Day 5

Scripture to Read: 2 Peter 3:9

As we have mentioned, and of course, know firsthand, we live in a world filled with sin and sinful people. Though we live in a world that is full of sin, and though we’d love to see our Lord come back quickly, God is being patient with all mankind. God is waiting for every lost soul to repent of their sin, to come to the full knowledge of the Truth (the Truth is Christ) so that every lost soul can come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil (2 Timothy 2:26). God makes this clear today in 2 Peter 3:9, The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. God desires to use us in His incredible handiwork on the souls of all mankind. For God has called each of us to make disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19–20). Making a disciple means not just leading someone to Christ, but once they surrender to Christ, we help them grow in their fellowship with Christ and His Word. We want people to follow Christ and His Word fully. There are far too many believers today that have remained spiritually immature and are still infants in Christ (1 Corinthians 3:1–3). Everyone starts as an infant in Christ, but God does not want us to stay in our infancy. We must lead others to Him as we continually grow in Him.

Challenge & Application

· How are you helping make disciples of Christ? · How are you making sure you do not linger in your infancy as a follower of Christ?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

We finish up 2 Peter this week as we walk through 2 Peter 3:1–18. As chapter three begins, God had Peter reveal to us that this is the second letter God had Peter write to the believers in his day. Why God waited until this point in the letter to remind us of this fact is made clear by God. God used Peter to stir up the minds of all believers...

Day 2

As we read 2 Peter 3:3–4, God had Peter shift subjects, and He had Peter talk about the “mockers” who will be present in the “last days.” We must understand that we have been living in the ”last days” for over 2,000 years. Since we entered the “last days” when Christ ascended into heaven, there also have been “mockers” for more than 2,000 yea...

Day 3

Today we continue with 2 Peter 3:5–6, where God also points out that the mockers pay zero attention to the flood of Noah’s day because they don’t believe it was a global flood or that the flood ever really happened. Now, if we’re not careful, we’ll totally miss these most important words in 2 Peter 3:5, “that by the word of God.” Why are thes...

Day 4

In 2 Peter 3:7, God had Peter begin to write about His judgment. We read that God plans to destroy both the heavens and the earth with fire. The fire of God will not only destroy the heavens and the earth, but this same fire will bring judgment and destruction on all of the ungodly. Jesus also spoke of heaven and earth passing away but that H...

Day 6

Interestingly, God led Peter, in 2 Peter 3:10, to come back and discuss “His day,” which is when everything as we know it will be obliterated for all eternity. We, as believers, know Christ will return, and God’s Word describes Christ’s return being “just like a thief,” which means no one will be expecting Him. What an incredible reminder to ...

Day 7

God had Peter share some final words in 2 Peter 3:15–18. It's incredible that God had Peter reference Paul and that some of Paul's writings were hard to understand. It's also awesome to see how God had Peter confirm the fact that the writings of Paul were HIS Holy Word. About Paul's writings, God had Peter write that the ignorant and unstable...
