Day 5

Scripture to Read: 2 Timothy 4:5

Today we focus on the end of 2 Timothy 4:5. We did not have the space to finish with 2 Timothy 4:5 in yesterday’s devotion, but God wants us all to fulfill the ministries each of us has been called to do. God has given each of us ministries to accomplish. We can read about the works God has for us to do in Romans 12:6-13, Ephesians 2:10, Titus 2:7, Titus 2:14, Titus 3:8, Titus 3:14. 1 Peter 4:10-11, and many other Scriptures as well. Too many people think that ministry is only for the full-time pastors of a church, but that thinking does not line up with God’s Word. God has given us His Holy Spirit so that we can do what He has called us to do. Through His Holy Spirit, God the Father has given us gifts that blend with our talents to serve Him well. We must make sure we carry out the ministry we have received from our Lord to accomplish. Some people wonder what their particular ministry role might be. We need to ask ourselves what we already have a passion in our hearts to do. We also need to ask other godly believers what gifts they recognize that we have because God will use those godly believers to confirm what He has designed us to do. God will also confirm His call on our lives when we willingly serve in different ministry opportunities. We just need to take that step of faith and serve.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about His call upon your life to serve Him in ministry? 2. How are you currently serving our Lord in ministry and what is He confirming in you concerning His call?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God continues to teach us through His Holy Word. We must remember that 2 Timothy is not just a letter from Paul to Timothy, but this letter is God’s revelation, through Paul, to Timothy and us. God has Paul begin 2 Timothy 4:1 with a command in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus. God wants us to realize that any command from Him is serio...

Day 2

We continue to hear what God has to say to us through 2 Timothy 4:1-2. As we saw yesterday, God has commanded us to always be ready to preach His Truth. Today we read how God tells us to use His Word. As we know, God’s Word is “living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of b...

Day 3

We know mankind has been living in the “last days” since Christ ascended into heaven, as recorded in Mark 16:19, Luke 24:50-51, and Acts 1:9-11. Also, remember that there has been evil in this world since the fall of man in Genesis 3. As we read 2 Timothy 4:3-4, the Truth of this Scripture was being lived out in the days of Paul and Timothy a...

Day 4

After reading yesterday’s devotion, we could get incredibly depressed focusing on how bad people are in this world today. But God does not want us to focus on the negative, so He tells us where our focus must be so that we fulfill all He has for us to do. As we read 2 Timothy 4:5, we see that God tells us first of all to “be sober in all thin...

Day 6

When we consider our lives and how we live for our Lord, we need to ask ourselves if we fully pour our lives out each day as a drink offering to our Lord. We find the drink offering first presented in Genesis 35:14, where Jacob poured out a drink offering to our Lord as a sacrifice. We also see the drink offering as part of the sacrifice to o...

Day 7

Though God used Paul to share with Timothy and us that his life was ending, God also used Paul to share a challenge and incredible words of encouragement for today. The challenge for us is whether we can say, each day, that we have fought the good fight, that we have finished the race for that day well, and that we have firmly guarded the gos...
