Day 4

Scripture to Read: Exodus 19:10–13

ture to Read – Exodus 19:10–13 Devotional – We all know God is Holy, Perfect, Pure, Sinless, and the list goes on—but we also know, or we should know, that because of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, for everyone who surrenders to Him as Lord, we are all washed clean through His blood and made pure, holy, perfect, sinless, righteous, and of course, the list goes on. So, prior to Christ’s sacrifice, anyone who desired to come near to God still had to be consecrated/sanctified/made holy by outward actions. But these consecrated actions were not permanent. The consecrated steps dealt with ceremonial washings and the sacrificing of animals so the blood of the animals would temporarily cover the sins of the people; that is why God told Moses in Exodus 19:10–11, “Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them wash their garments; 11 and let them be ready for the third day…” For the Israelites to get close to God’s presence, they must follow the instructions for cleaning themselves. God even had Moses tell the people in Exodus 19:12–13, “You shall set bounds for the people all around, saying, ‘Beware that you do not go up on the mountain or touch the border of it; whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death. 13 No hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned or shot through; whether beast or man, he shall not live.’” Considering all they had to do to be close to God should fill our hearts with incredible thankfulness for all Christ has done for us.

Day 1

God had delivered the Israelites out of Egypt, and they had been free for three months, as we see in Exodus 19:1, “In the third month after the sons of Israel had gone out of the land of Egypt, on that very day they came into the wilderness of Sinai.” Finally, they had reached the mountain of God, the place where God had met with Moses back i...

Day 2

When we ended yesterday’s devotion, Moses had gone up Mount Sinai to hear from God. God told Moses to tell the Israelites the following in Exodus 19:4–6, “You yourselves have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles ’wings, and brought you to Myself. 5 Now then, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then...

Day 3

Moses had received from the Lord what He wanted Him to share with the Israelites. According to Exodus 19:7, “So Moses came and called the elders of the people, and set before them all these words which the Lord had commanded him.” Moses told them everything that God had said. God still speaks loud and clear today; He uses His Holy Word (the B...

Day 5

As we begin today, read Exodus 19:14–17 to prepare for what God will show you. “14 So Moses went down from the mountain to the people and consecrated the people, and they washed their garments. 15 He said to the people, 'Be ready for the third day; do not go near a woman.’ 16 So it came about on the third day, when it was morning, that there ...

Day 6

God continues to give us some great descriptions of what it was like when He descended on Mount Sinai. We read in Exodus 19:18, “Now Mount Sinai was all in smoke because the Lord descended upon it in fire; and its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked violently.” God did not just descend, but He descended i...

Day 7

God came down on Mount Sinai for all of the Israelites to see and hear. As we read the end of Exodus 19:19, we see that when Moses spoke to God, God answered Moses with thunder. There is no doubt that Moses understood what God said, but it sounded like thunder to the people of Israel. Then God does something interesting. God had already told ...
