Day 1

Scripture to Read: Genesis 3:1

Today we begin our walk through Genesis 3. Genesis 3:1 opens with this “Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made.” In Revelation 12:9 and again in Revelation 20:2, God led John to describe Satan as “that ancient serpent.” No doubt, God is referring to Satan as described here in Genesis 3. Though appearing in the form of a serpent, God clarifies that Satan’s presence and voice appeared in cunning shrewdness in order to deceive humanity into sin. Satan always lays out the bait to see if we, as God’s children, are willing to take the bait. What Satan never shows us is the hidden “hook” that results in death. That’s why God tells us in James 1:14-15 that each one of us is tempted when we are attracted/persuaded by our own desires. God does not say that we’re persuaded by Satan, but it’s by our own fleshly desire. When our desire takes over, we choose to sin and when we sin, then sin always results in death. Satan will even take God’s Truth and twist it to seek to try and bait us. The serpent twisted God’s Word in Genesis 3:1 when he asked the woman this question, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?” What God had said, in Genesis 2:16 was this, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden.” When we know God’s Truth, we can overcome the schemes of the devil (Ephesians 6:10-17).

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about Satan’s tactics to seek to tempt us into sin? 2. How are you preparing for Satan’s attacks each day, knowing he’s going to tempt you to sin?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 2

We know we are tempted when we are carried away by our own fleshly desires, as we saw in yesterday’s devotion. As Christians, it is incredibly important for us to remember that we have to crucify (die to) our fleshly desires continually. Our “flesh” is ALWAYS going to hunger for the garbage of this world and God makes that evident to us (Gala...

Day 3

After the woman’s response in Genesis 3:2-3, the serpent closes in for the kill by calling God a liar, telling a partial truth, and seeking to plant the seed of doubt in the woman’s mind. As we read Genesis 3:4-6, we see that the serpent never says another word after laying the bait for the woman. The seed had been planted and the woman took ...

Day 4

As we know, according to God’s Word, sin ALWAYS results in death (Romans 5:12, Romans 6:16, Romans 6:21, Romans 6:23, Romans 8:6, Galatians 6:8). As we read Genesis 3:7-10, we see that when Adam and his wife disobeyed God’s command, they both died immediately. Of course, this was not physical death. But let’s not miss the fact that God’s prom...

Day 5

The GOOD NEWS today is that God always gives us the opportunity to confess our sin and repent from our sin. God did the same with Adam and his wife. In Genesis 3:11, God asks Adam,“ Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?” When we are given the opportunity to confess and repent, we nee...

Day 6

We see today in Genesis 3:14-15 that God NEVER asks the serpent what He did. The serpent was not given the opportunity to confess and repent because he had already sealed his fate when he rebelled against God. So, God delivers judgment/punishment to the serpent first. The GOOD NEWS is that the story of redemption is first revealed in Genesis ...

Day 7

As we end Genesis 3, God reminds us that Adam chose to listen to his wife and lay aside God’s original command to him in Genesis 2:16-17. God’s judgment was to curse the ground because of Adam’s sin. Work was NOT cursed, but the ground was. So, work became hard! Then we see a shift in God’s Word. Adam names his wife Eve. She was not named up ...
