Day 3

Scripture to Read: Genesis 3:4-6

After the woman’s response in Genesis 3:2-3, the serpent closes in for the kill by calling God a liar, telling a partial truth, and seeking to plant the seed of doubt in the woman’s mind. As we read Genesis 3:4-6, we see that the serpent never says another word after laying the bait for the woman. The seed had been planted and the woman took the bait. The woman had taken her eyes off of ALL that God had given to her and Adam. The woman focused on one thing, the “tree of the knowledge of good and evil.” In Genesis 3:6 we read that the woman and Adam BOTH gave in to the temptation and surrendered to their fleshly desires. What the woman and Adam had done was give in to the desires of their flesh, the desires of their eyes, and were overtaken by the pride of life (1 John 2:16). Satan purposefully attacked God’s created order as well. Remember, God had created Adam first. Adam was to be the “head” of the woman (Ephesians 5:22-33) and to lead her well. God had created the woman from Adam. Also, God had given mankind dominion/rule over the animals on the earth (Genesis 1:26-27). BUT the serpent (an animal) verbally ruled the woman because she chose to listen to the serpent and not God's command. Then, Adam listened to his wife, and Adam also turned his back on the direct command given to him by God. Satan’s tactic worked, and mankind plunged into sin.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about the process of Adam and the woman’s fall into sin? 2. How do you guard your heart from the temptations you face and overcome the lust of your flesh, eyes, and your pride?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Today we begin our walk through Genesis 3. Genesis 3:1 opens with this “Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made.” In Revelation 12:9 and again in Revelation 20:2, God led John to describe Satan as “that ancient serpent.” No doubt, God is referring to Satan as described here in Genesis 3. Th...

Day 2

We know we are tempted when we are carried away by our own fleshly desires, as we saw in yesterday’s devotion. As Christians, it is incredibly important for us to remember that we have to crucify (die to) our fleshly desires continually. Our “flesh” is ALWAYS going to hunger for the garbage of this world and God makes that evident to us (Gala...

Day 4

As we know, according to God’s Word, sin ALWAYS results in death (Romans 5:12, Romans 6:16, Romans 6:21, Romans 6:23, Romans 8:6, Galatians 6:8). As we read Genesis 3:7-10, we see that when Adam and his wife disobeyed God’s command, they both died immediately. Of course, this was not physical death. But let’s not miss the fact that God’s prom...

Day 5

The GOOD NEWS today is that God always gives us the opportunity to confess our sin and repent from our sin. God did the same with Adam and his wife. In Genesis 3:11, God asks Adam,“ Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten of the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?” When we are given the opportunity to confess and repent, we nee...

Day 6

We see today in Genesis 3:14-15 that God NEVER asks the serpent what He did. The serpent was not given the opportunity to confess and repent because he had already sealed his fate when he rebelled against God. So, God delivers judgment/punishment to the serpent first. The GOOD NEWS is that the story of redemption is first revealed in Genesis ...

Day 7

As we end Genesis 3, God reminds us that Adam chose to listen to his wife and lay aside God’s original command to him in Genesis 2:16-17. God’s judgment was to curse the ground because of Adam’s sin. Work was NOT cursed, but the ground was. So, work became hard! Then we see a shift in God’s Word. Adam names his wife Eve. She was not named up ...
