Day 1

Scripture to Read: Genesis 5:1-5

As we begin our walk through Genesis 5 this week, we’ll see how God gives a great reminder of His goodness and that He’s always faithful. Although Genesis 5 is a long genealogy, we need to always remind ourselves that all of God’s Word is God-breathed and incredibly profitable. God tells us this in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. So, God even uses genealogies to teach us about Himself. When reading genealogies, read the first name in the list and then the last name. This helps us see where God is taking us. God uses genealogies to provide us a picture of His handiwork through each generation. In Genesis 5, God leads us from Adam to Noah. We know from Genesis 4 that Cain had left and gone to Nod, East of Eden. Of course, we also know that Cain had killed Abel, so Adam and Eve’s first two sons were gone from them. But God shares with us in Genesis 5 how He blessed Adam and Eve with Seth. God lays out a genealogy that highlights His faithfulness and the faithful family tree that comes through Seth. Through Seth’s genealogy, God reveals His faithfulness and handiwork through their lives. Remember, God created mankind for His glory and not our own, and we see His glory displayed here in Genesis 5. Genesis 5 is a beautiful display of God laying out His story for us.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about His Word, genealogies, and His wondrous handiwork in it all? 2. How do you see yourself in God’s handiwork and how are you being used for His glory?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 2

In Genesis 5, God continues to show us where we began. Remember, these are our generations all the way back to Adam. It’s interesting that in Genesis 5, God starts back at the beginning again. The reason for starting over is because God began a new branch with the birth of Seth. As we study God’s Word, we find that Seth is in the lineage of o...

Day 3

As we continue our journey through Genesis 5, we find a few verses that stand out among the rest. God gave us the genealogy from Adam, then Seth, and so on. When we get to Genesis 5:21-24, we find something different than what God shared about the others in this genealogy. God shared this in Genesis 5:21-24, When Enoch had lived 65 years, he ...

What we have to see in Genesis 5:24 is that because Enoch walked with God,...

Enoch was the first and Elijah was the second. We know this because God tells us...

Day 6

As we finish up with Enoch today, we need to know a little bit more about how God used him. We find Enoch also mentioned in Jude 1:14-15. Day 7

It’s interesting that there is a Lamech mentioned in Genesis 4 in the line of Cain. This Lamech boasts of murder and his self-proclaimed belief of God’s protection. This Lamech is the only person in the lineage of Cain whose words are recorded – speaking of vengeance, arrogance, and murder. Then, in Genesis 5 we have another Lamech mentioned,...
