Day 2

Scripture to Read: Hebrews 7:1-3

Today we see that as Abraham returned from the battle he had been in, Melchizedek came out to meet Abraham. Melchizedek blessed Abraham and Abraham gave Melchizedek a tenth of his spoils, as mentioned in Genesis 14:20. A little more about Melchizedek that needs to be noted: There is nothing in Genesis 14:18-20, Psalm 110:4, Hebrews 7, or anywhere else in Scripture that says anything about the genealogy of Melchizedek. As far as we know, according to God’s Word, Melchizedek had no dad or mom; there’s no record of his birth and no record of his death. God also lets us know in Hebrews 7:3 that Melchizedek is “made like the Son of God,” and remains a priest perpetually. We must understand that Jesus, the Son of God, is NOT made like Melchizedek, but Melchizedek is made like Jesus. So, Melchizedek is presented in such a way that he points to the truth about Jesus. This is significant because the Jewish Christians, to whom the letter of Hebrews was first written, were struggling with being persecuted as Christians. They needed to know that Christ was and is greater than Abraham (the father of all Israel and of all who believe) and that Christ is greater than all the priests from the line of Levi. We must know that Christ is greater than all, too, for He is the only One worthy of our praise and worship. Christ is the only One worthy of surrendering to as Lord and Savior. Christ is Who we need and All we need.

Day 1

We begin our walk through Hebrews 7 today. God, through the writer of Hebrews, identifies Melchizedek as both king of Salem and priest of the Most High God. Melchizedek, being called king of Sa- lem and also priest of the Most High God, is incredibly important. First, being both a king and a priest in Israel was never allowed by God because a...

Day 3

As we continue our walk through He- brews 7, we need to “pause and consider,” as God tells us in Hebrews 7:4, how great Melchizedek was as God’s high priest. We need to understand that being a priest in Israel was dependent on your family line. All the priests of Israel came from the tribe of Levi. But Melchizedek was “without father, without...

Day 4

There is so much to unpack, so we con- tinue in Hebrews 7:4-10. God makes it perfectly clear that Melchizedek was greater than both Abraham and Levi. Melchizedek is greater because he received tithes from both Abraham and Levi (Hebrews 7:7-8). Accord- ing to Genesis 14:18-20, Abraham gave Melchizedek a tenth of his choicest spoils as an act o...

Day 5

God uses His Word to answer our ques- tions and to solidify His Truth to us so we’ll walk in obe- dience to Him daily. The question is asked in Hebrews 7:11, “Now if perfection [a perfect fellowship between God and the worshiper] had been attained through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people were given the Law) what further need ...

Day 6

Today we see, again, why Christ is the Great High Priest and is Greater than all the priests who came through the family line of Aaron and Levi. The first thing God tells us is that Christ was appointed by God the Father as Great High Priest through an oath from God the Father. Why is this significant to us or the orig- inal readers of God’s ...

Day 7

As we finish with Hebrews 7 today, we have some rich truths God does not want us to miss. First, we find that because Christ is our Great High Priest, He is the Only One who is able also to save forev- er (completely, perfectly, for eternity) those who come to God the Father through Him. Our salvation, through Christ, is guaranteed for all et...
