Day 7

Scripture to Read: John 1:15–18

As we close out another week and prepare our hearts for corporate worship today, God brings us back to John the Baptist in John 1:15–18. We read, “John *testified about Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.’” 16 For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace. 17 For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him.” God chose to use John the Baptist in such a powerful way to proclaim to everyone that Christ is King and Messiah and that all grace and truth come through Christ alone. Christ came to help the entire human race understand that God’s grace and truth are available to all who surrender to Him as Lord. Christ also revealed to everyone who the Father is and how awesome He is in giving us His grace, truth, and love. The fullness of God was revealed through Christ, and His rich blessings are poured out on all of His children (Ephesians 3:20–21). As we worship our Lord daily, let us remember that the greatest gift from God the Father is Christ Himself. We don’t live this life waiting on heaven or even getting excited about the stuff in heaven. We live for our Lord Jesus Christ, for He is our most precious gift.

Day 1

Advent is an incredible time of remembrance and reflection as we consider our God, the Creator of everything, coming to earth and being born in an earthly shell like ours. John 1:1–18 gives us this beautiful picture of Christ. God had John write, in John 1:1, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. “In ...

Day 2

As we saw yesterday, and of course, as believers, we know God has always been, so He was in the beginning. God had John write, in John 1:2–3, He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him, nothing came into being that has come into being. Jesus, God the Son, was there because He’s God. Jesus is...

Day 3

When we think of the word “life,” we usually think of our age, our life experiences, how much more of life we think we might have, or even the quality of life we’re living. But today, as we read God’s Word, God had John write this in John 1:4–5, In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. 5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the da...

Day 4

God had John share a little about John the Baptist as we read in John 1:6–8, There came a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness, to testify about the Light, so that all might believe through him. 8 He was not the Light, but he came to testify about the Light. We know John the Baptist, by physical terms, was about six ...

Day 5

God continues to have John explain to us the beauty of Christ being our “true Light” in John 1:9. There is only one other Scripture where God has John mention Christ as the “true Light,” and we find it in 1 John 2:8. There is such a thing as a counterfeit light. We see this recorded in 2 Corinthians 11:13–14, For such men are false apostles,...

Day 6

God gives us more Good News in John 1:14, And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. Our Lord Jesus Christ took on a fleshly shell so He could experience every temptation as we do, yet He never sinned (Hebrews 4:15). That’s why Christ was and is ...
