Day 6

Scripture to Read: John 1:43–46

Jesus continued to call His disciples to Himself. We read in John 1:43–46, The next day He purposed to go into Galilee, and He *found Philip. And Jesus *said to him, “Follow Me.” 44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, of the city of Andrew and Peter. 45 Philip *found Nathanael and *said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and also the Prophets wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” 46 Nathanael said to him, “Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?” Philip *said to him, “Come and see.” Jesus called Phillip and simply said to him, “Follow Me.” Phillip wasted no time, for he went and found Nathanael and told him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and also the Prophets wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” Phillip immediately told Nathanael that he knew this was the Messiah Moses and the Prophets prophesied about. Nathanael responded with a bit of bias because there was nothing special about Nazareth; it was just a humble little community. But Phillip persisted and told Nathanael, “Come and see.” People will question us about Jesus and will wonder if He is really the One True Messiah and the only way to God the Father. We must not let their questions or comments intimidate us, but we must be willing to let them see Christ through us. As we share Him with others, some will walk away, but then there will be those who will open their lives to Him and that is what makes it all worthwhile.

Challenge & Application

• What did God teach you today through Phillip’s approach to Nathanael? • How has God used the examples this week to encourage you to share Christ with others?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Our Lord Jesus Christ is the only One worthy of following. Though there are many people in this life that we look up to, no one is more worthy of following than Christ our Lord. To be Christ’s disciple means to be one of His followers. Disciple means “follower, believer, student, protege," so we must choose to follow the One True Lamb of God....

Day 2

The two men who started following Jesus were immediately questioned by Jesus. We read in John 1:38, “And Jesus turned and saw them following, and *said to them, ‘What do you seek?’ They said to Him, ‘Rabbi (which translated means Teacher), where are You staying?’” Jesus challenged these two young men to examine their hearts and ask themselves...

Day 3

Jesus knew these two men who had been disciples of John the Baptist were ready to follow Him. Jesus’ response to these two men is still the same today for anyone who is willing to surrender to Him as Lord. We read in John 1:39, “He *said to them, ‘Come, and you will see.’ So they came and saw where He was staying; and they stayed with Him tha...

Day 4

The Apostle John is God’s instrument as He uses John to write the Gospel of John. We read in John 1:40–41, “One of the two who heard John speak and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41 He *found first his own brother Simon and *said to him, ‘We have found the Messiah’ (which translated means Christ).” In the Gospel of John, we ...

Day 5

The Good News, better known to Christians as “the Gospel,” is what God has given us through our Lord Jesus Christ. Andrew went to Simon Peter and told him about Jesus and then he went one step further. We read in John 1:42, “He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, ‘You are Simon the son of John; you shall be called Cephas’ (whi...

Day 7

Nathanael made the decision to follow Phillip to meet Jesus. We read what happened in John 47–51, Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and *said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom there is no deceit!” 48 Nathanael *said to Him, “How do You know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fi...
