Scripture to Read: 2 Kings 23:1-3
Josiah wasted no time after hearing the report Huldah the prophetess had given. King Josiah gathered all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem, along with all the men of Judah, all the people of Jerusalem, as well as all the priests and the prophets. Then, according to 2 Kings 23:2, “he read in their hearing all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in the house of the Lord.” Josiah made sure there was no doubt in anyone’s minds what God had given to Moses in the book of the law for the nation of Israel to live by. God’s Word is more powerful than any word ever written or spoken. That is why God made clear in Hebrews 4:12, “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Josiah knew that he and the people must abide in God’s Law and live wholeheartedly for Him, according to His Word. Then, we read in 2 Kings 23:3, “The king stood by the pillar and made a covenant before the Lord, to walk after the Lord, and to keep His commandments and His testimonies and His statutes with all his heart and all his soul, to carry out the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people entered into the covenant.” Josiah promised to obey God and His Word.
