Day 5

Scripture to Read: Luke 16:29

What our Lord Jesus Christ does for us today is fantastic. As we read Luke 16:29, we see the response of Abraham to the rich man. From yesterday’s devotion, we know the rich man wanted Abraham to send Lazarus back from the dead to be able to tell the rich man’s five brothers to repent of their sin. Abraham’s response, as Jesus shares in this parable, is incredibly revealing. Abraham says to the rich man, “They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.” WOW, this ought to be an eye-opener for many Christians today! Today, some say that the Old Testament is not needed anymore since we have the New Testament. In this parable, Jesus says what is written in the Old Testament by Moses and the Prophets are more than enough for someone to come to the point of repentance. God’s Word clearly shares the gospel in both the Old and New Testament. God’s love, grace, mercy, forgiveness, etc…is just as evident in the Old Testament as in the New Testament. Without the Old Testament, we cannot fully understand why Christ had to die for our sins. We cannot fully understand why there had to be a blood sacrifice. We cannot fully understand what redemption means. We cannot fully understand being purchased out of slavery and being set free. Jesus makes His Truth clear that what Moses and the Prophets gave us is more than enough to be able to lead someone to repentance and to surrender their lives to the God who created them.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about the Old Testament? 2. How would you share the Gospel with someone from only using the Old Testament?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Today we begin our journey through the parable of “The Rich Man and Lazarus.” We know our Lord Jesus Christ used parables as incredible teaching tools and our Lord has a lot to teach us through this parable as well. Our Lord introduces the rich man as a person who loved to dress up in the finest clothing possible. Jesus said it like this in L...

Day 2

We read today that both Lazarus and the rich man died. Lazarus was taken to Abraham’s bosom, and the rich man went to Hades. Before our Lord Jesus Christ's crucifixion, all dead souls went to the same place, but this place was divided into two areas and was separated by a large chasm. One area, in Hebrew, was called Sheol and in Greek, it was...

Day 3

What we read today are some very sobering words. As we know from yesterday’s devotion, the rich man had called out to Abraham, asking Abraham to send Lazarus over to help bring him some relief from his agony. Today we read Abraham’s response. Abraham reminded the rich man of the rich man’s failure to show compassion for Lazarus while living o...

Day 4

As we know, the rich man had already made a request to Abraham to hopefully receive some relief from his torment and agony. The rich man’s request was denied. Now, we might think that this was a legitimate request at first glance. But what the rich man’s request indeed reveals to us was that even in physical death, the rich man’s heart never ...

Day 6

As we read Luke 16:30-31, we find that the rich man did not like the answer he received from Abraham. As we saw in yesterday’s devotion, Abraham had told the rich man that what the rich man’s five brothers had from what was written in the Old Testament was more than enough to lead the rich man’s five brothers to the point of repentance. But t...
