Day 3

Scripture to Read: Psalm 130:1-3

As God continues to speak to us through His Word and His Holy Spirit in us, we have a great question to ponder today. The psalmist in Psalm 130:3 asks, “If You, Lord, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand?” In other words, who could ever survive God’s judgment if God kept a record of all of our sins? The obvious answer is that none of us could survive. God, through our Lord Jesus Christ, paid the full price of all our sin. The beauty of Christ’s sacrifice for us is that His blood completely cleanses us from all our sins. So, God tells us in Colossians 1:13-14, For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. So, through Christ we have God the Father’s complete forgiveness. Then God tells us in Colossians 2:13-14, When you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, 14 having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. So, again, God confirms that we've been made alive in Christ, that ALL our sins are forgiven, and that our debt has been completely canceled. God took our sin out of the way and nailed it to the cross of Christ. What an incredible Savior we have!

Day 1

Our Lord has us focused on “hope” this week. If we’re not careful, we can think of “hope” as unattainable because of the way we use the word in our English language. For instance, we’ll say, “I hope the weather is nice this weekend.” Or we’ll say, “I hope my team wins today.” When we use the word hope in this way we know in our hearts that we...

Day 4

As we saw yesterday, if God did keep a record of all our sins, then none of us could ever stand before Him. Righteousness is found only through our relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. As the psalmist shares in Psalm 130:4, the beauty is “there is forgiveness.” Daily, we need to thank God for the forgiveness that He has given us through o...

Day 5

We all live each day with some expectation of what our day might bring. We might expect to do well in any one of a number of things such as in school, in our job, in sports, in music, in a relationship, in eating right, in taking care of ourselves, etc.… But the psalmist in Psalm 130:5 says that he is living each day waiting on our Lord. In o...

Day 6

Our expectations and longings are quite the same. But as we read Psalm 130:6, we see how the psalmist uses military personnel as an example of longing for our Lord. In the NLT, Psalm 130:6 says, “I long for the Lord more than sentries long for the dawn, yes, more than sentries long for the dawn.” WOW! Consider what we long for each day. As th...

Day 7

What a wonderful week of being challenged by our Lord through His Word to be sure our hope is in Him and Him alone. As we finish with Psalm 130:7-8, God, through the psalmist, leaves a final challenge to Israel to “hope in the Lord.” Of course, this challenge is for us. We must make sure that we do not place our hope in anything this world of...
