Day 6

Scripture to Read: Romans 13:13

God continues today from Romans 13:12, as He told us to “lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.” As we choose to live for our Lord, God tells us in Romans 13:13, “Let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy.” We must not get caught up in the deeds of our flesh. Our flesh is so ugly, and God does not want any of these characteristics to be evident in our lives. We see in Galatians 5:19–21, Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. As we read through this list, we see characteristics that we all struggle to overcome. The good news is that we have God's Holy Spirit living in us. Because He lives in us, we have everything needed (2 Peter 1:3–4) to be able to crucify our flesh and die to the temptations that come our way (1 Corinthians 10:13). All of this is in light of what we have been examining all week—the fact that each day brings us closer to our Lord’s return! We must live above reproach and let our lives shine brightly for our Lord.

Challenge & Application

· What areas of your flesh do you need to crucify so that you “behave properly,” knowing Christ’s return is close? · After looking up the Scriptures mentioned above, how are you seeing victory each day in the spiritual battlefield?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

We begin this week in Romans 13:8, as God had Paul write to us telling us that we should owe no one except to love one another and to seek the best for all. God goes on and has Paul write, “for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.” We’ll unpack what fulfilling the law looks like in tomorrow’s devotion as we cover Romans 13:9. But ...

Day 2

God continues to teach us about submission, but now He shifts to us being submitted to His commandments. Now, though God had Paul list specifically from the Ten Commandments in Romans 13:9, God made sure to include this statement, “and if there is any other commandment,” making sure that there is no mistake to what He is telling us all. We ar...

Day 3

God is so gracious and merciful toward us as we learn to walk in total submission to Him and His Word. Be sure to thank Him daily for His grace and mercy because we would all be judged harshly without them. Yesterday, God taught us that His command to love Him and others are the two greatest commandments that He has given us. God continues to...

Day 4

Today, we examine Romans 13:11, as God led Paul to write, “Do this, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep; for now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed.” The first two words, “Do this,” are in reference to what we covered in yesterday’s devotion, that we are to love and not harm anyone. So, God ...

Day 5

As we continue from yesterday’s devotion, God tells us in Romans 13:12 that this present evil age is almost finished. Remember that this was written about 2,000 years ago, and as the first readers received God’s Word, there was an excitement that Christ’s return was near. God is eternal, and as His Word says in 2 Peter 3:8, But do not let thi...

Day 7

God has taught us a lot this week, which all boils down to being submitted to Him as our Lord. We must trust in His sovereign will even when we cannot understand it. When we submit to Him, we are putting our faith into action. Faith is what destroys all of the flaming arrows of the spiritual forces of darkness (Ephesians 6:16). As we finish t...
