Day 5

Scripture to Read: Romans 5:16–17

God continues to speak to us today about His incredible gift through Christ in Romans 5:16–17, “The gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned; for on the one hand the judgment arose from one transgression resulting in condemnation, but on the other hand the free gift arose from many transgressions resulting in justification. 17 For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.” God, because He is righteous, holy, perfect, sinless, and so much more, He must bring His judgment on all sin. God the Father’s ultimate judgment was poured out on Christ when Christ willingly submitted to the Father’s perfect will to take our punishment for sin on Himself. If Christ had not died for our sins, we would all receive condemnation from God the Father for our sins. But because of Christ’s sacrifice, we are justified (just-as-if-I’d never sinned) before God the Father for all eternity. Death has reigned in all people since Adam. But through Christ’s resurrection, death was defeated. God tells us this in 1 Corinthians 15:54–55, “But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, ‘Death is swallowed up in victory. 55 O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?’” God’s “good news” in Christ is absolutely worth living and sharing daily.

Day 1

God’s Word is so rich, and God uses His Word in our lives to feed us, guide us, convict us, encourage us, and so much more. We also learned that through Christ, we’ve been reconciled to God the Father ...

Day 2

As we continue, we read in Romans 5:13, “for until the Law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law.” At first glance, we would think that God was saying through Paul that until the Law was given to Moses, God did not count people's sins against them because there was not yet any law to break. But God is not saying th...

Day 3

Our journey through Romans is incredibly enlightening, as God shows us His incredible grace through our Lord Jesus Christ. As we learned yesterday, even though God’s Law had not yet been given, people were still accountable for their sinful nature. Day 6

God’s Word ought to excite us and challenge us every day of our lives. If God’s Word is not changing us, the problem is not with God's Word, but the problem is with us. When we hunger and thirst more for what the news outlets are telling us, what we receive from our social media accounts, or what we get from “good” books or podcasts, we are m...

Day 7

What an incredible week of learning from God and His Holy Word. Today, we read in Romans 5:20–21, “The Law came in so that the transgression would increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, 21 so that, as sin reigned in death, even so grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” ...
