Day 6

Scripture to Read: 1 Corinthians 14:34–36

God placed order within the body of believers, and that order is to be followed by His children so that God is honored and glorified. God had Paul write in 1 Corinthians 14:34–36, “The women are to keep silent in the churches; for they are not permitted to speak, but are to subject themselves, just as the Law also says. 35 If they desire to learn anything, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is improper for a woman to speak in church. 36 Was it from you that the word of God first went forth? Or has it come to you only?” God had already used Paul to write in 1 Corinthians 11:1–16, how women have the right to pray or share God’s Truth with others. In Paul’s day, as in some churches today, women and men often sat in separate groups during church services. In the Corinthian church, there seemed to be a problem with women disrupting the church services with questions. God had Paul instruct them not to disrupt the worship service but to wait and ask their questions at home. Since many of the women in the Corinthian church were from Gentile backgrounds, they would not have known how to conduct themselves at a worship service and so God used Paul to help them understand. Then, God had Paul ask them if God’s Word originated with them. God knew that some would think that they didn’t have to obey His Word if they disagreed with it. However, spiritually mature believers will choose to obey God’s Word regardless of the circumstances.

Challenge & Application

When God’s Word has made you feel uncomfortable, how did God mature you and what did He teach you in the process? How has God matured you as a follower of His and where do you still struggle at times?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!
