Scripture to Read: 1 Corinthians 14:37–40
God had Paul continue to challenge the believers in Corinth to check their hearts for any pride or arrogance when it came to abiding in God’s Truth. God had Paul continue to write in 1 Corinthians 14:37–40, “If anyone thinks he is a prophet or spiritual, let him recognize that the things which I write to you are the Lord’s commandment. 38 But if anyone does not recognize this, he is not recognized. 39 Therefore, my brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak in tongues. 40 But all things must be done properly and in an orderly manner.” God used Paul to remind the believers in Corinth that if they had a problem with what Paul wrote to them, then they had a problem not with Paul but with God. God had Paul tell them that what he had written was a commandment from the Lord. If anyone could not see that it was a commandment from the Lord, then rest assured, they are not worthy to be heard. To question God’s Word is just plain foolish. God had John write it this way in 1 John 4:6, “We are from God; he who knows God listens to us; he who is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.” We must continually listen to God’s Word and also obey it. As followers of Christ, our obedience is key to our growth in Him. We can trust His Word and know that God will always lead us the right way.
