Day 6

Scripture to Read: Exodus 9:18–35

Remember from yesterday’s devotion that God had sent Moses to talk to Pharaoh. God had Moses proclaim that all the plagues had been happening to show Pharaoh and the Egyptians that no one was like God in all the earth. God also had Moses say to Pharaoh, in Exodus 9:17, “Still you exalt yourself against My people by not letting them go.” Pharaoh was incredibly prideful and because of his pride, the plagues continued. God had Moses continue telling Pharaoh that the next plague would arrive the next day. God sent very heavy hail, such as had never before been seen in Egypt. God even had Moses warn Pharaoh and his servant, in Exodus 9:19, “Now therefore send, bring your livestock and whatever you have in the field to safety. Every man and beast that is found in the field and is not brought home, when the hail comes down on them, will die.” God showed His incredible grace by His warning to bring everyone to safety. Exodus 9:20–21 is incredibly revealing because some actually listened to the Word of our Lord but some did not. Exodus 9:20–21 says, “The one among the servants of Pharaoh who feared the word of the Lord made his servants and his livestock flee into the houses; 21 but he who paid no regard to the word of the Lord left his servants and his livestock in the field.” Some Egyptians and their livestock were spared because they listened to God’s Word. Obedience to our Lord’s Word always brings blessing (James 1:25).

Day 1

We focus on the next nine plagues God sent upon the land of Egypt this week. As a reminder, Pharaoh’s heart was hardened and calloused before God began to use Moses and Aaron in Pharaoh's life to free the nation of Israel. So, as God worked, the condition of Pharaoh’s heart continued to harden rather than soften. God told Moses, in Exodus 7:1...

Day 2

Today, God said to Moses, in Exodus 8:1–3, “Go to Pharaoh and say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord, “Let My people go, that they may serve Me. 2 But if you refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite your whole territory with frogs. 3 The Nile will swarm with frogs, which will come up and go into your house and into your bedroom and on your bed, a...

Day 3

Today, we read about the third and fourth plagues, the plagues of the gnats and flies. God did not send Moses to speak to Pharaoh before the gnats came. God said to Moses, in Exodus 8:16, “Say to Aaron, ‘Stretch out your staff and strike the dust of the earth, that it may become gnats through all the land of Egypt.’” Also, as I mentioned in y...

Day 4

God continued His plagues on Egypt, and as He did, Pharaoh continued to harden his heart. We have discussed this already, but, as a reminder, God did harden Pharaoh’s heart, and Pharaoh hardened his own heart. It was not one or the other, but it was both. God warns us, “Do not harden your hearts” in Hebrews 3:8—so, we know it’s possible to ha...

Day 5

God continued bringing His plagues on Pharaoh and all of the Egyptians. As God spoke to Moses and Aaron, He told them, in Exodus 9:8–9, “Take for yourselves handfuls of soot from a kiln, and let Moses throw it toward the sky in the sight of Pharaoh. 9 It will become fine dust over all the land of Egypt, and will become boils breaking out with...

Day 7

Today, God sent two more plagues on Pharaoh and the Egyptians—the first is the plague of locusts. In Exodus 10:7–9, it seems that Pharaoh’s servants almost persuade Pharaoh to let Israel go. But Pharaoh’s heart remained prideful, as stated in this question in Exodus 10:3, as God had Moses ask Pharaoh, “How long will you refuse to humble yours...
