Day 7

Scripture to Read: Genesis 30:9-24

We know that God had blessed Leah by giving Jacob his first four sons through Leah. Rachel, on the other hand, was not bearing children at all. Because of Rachels’s jealously of Leah, we read in Genesis 30:1-8 how Rachel gave her maidservant Bilhah to Jacob to have children through Bilhah. Then we read in Genesis 30:9-13 that because Leah was not bearing any more children and due to her jealousy of Rachel’s maidservant, Leah gave her maidservant Zilpah to Jacob to have more sons through Zilpah. We can see how messed up this family had become. But then we read in Genesis 30:14-21 how God continued to move on Leah’s behalf, for Jacob did not love her, but God did, and Leah gave Jacob two more sons and also a daughter. Finally, in Genesis 30:22-24, we see God show His favor to Rachel, and Rachel ends up giving Jacob his eleventh son, Joseph. God uses all things and all people to carry our His perfect purpose and plans. Even when mankind seems to get in the way we can know that God is actively working. As messed up as all these people were here in God’s Word, God reminds us of His truth in Romans 8:28, And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. God can and will carry out His perfect plan. We just need to make sure we obey Him so we’re part of the solution and not the problem.

Challenge & Application

1. What did God teach you today about how He is working even when we choose to walk in sinful ways and attitudes? 2. How are you seeking to live your life so that you know you are walking exactly as God would have you walk?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

This week we see how Jacob is being challenged in ways he probably never expected. As a little reminder from Genesis 28 of what has happened in Jacob’s life: Issac had listened to Rebekah about sending Jacob to her brother Laban’s so Jacob could find a wife there and not from the Canaanites; of course, Rebekah knew that Esau wanted to kill Ja...

Day 2

As Jacob journeyed to Haran, we find in Genesis 29:1-8 that Jacob came to a well where there were shepherds, along with their sheep, and the shepherds were waiting to water their flocks. Jacob asks the shepherds where they are from because Jacob probably was not sure exactly where he was. Jacob knew he was on his way to Haran, but there were ...

Day 3

God works in our lives even in the smallest of details so that we can rest and trust Him no matter what we may face in this life. God never promised us that this life would be easy, but He did promise us that we would face tests and trials to grow our faith in Him (James 1:2-4). As Jacob talked with the shepherds about Laban and Laban’s famil...

Day 5

We know Laban got a month's worth of labor out of Jacob and never talked about a wage, which reveals a little about Laban's heart. Laban showed us that he was a user of people and would try to get the most for himself. Jacob declared his love for Rachel to Laban and would work seven years for Laban to have Rachel as his wife. Even though Jaco...

Day 6

God begins to unveil to us His abundant favor being poured out on Leah. Though Leah was not Jacob’s first choice, as a wife, Leah was God’s choice. In Genesis 29:31-35, we read how God took care of Leah and blessed her to give Jacob his first four sons. It’s interesting to note that Leah’s lineage leads to our Messiah. Jesus was born of the t...
