Day 3

Scripture to Read: Luke 13:10–13

Jesus taught daily, but He also made sure to be in a synagogue on the Sabbath to teach those who were there. God had Luke record the following in Luke 13:10–13, “And He was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. 11 And there was a woman who for eighteen years had had a sickness caused by a spirit; and she was bent double, and could not straighten up at all. 12 When Jesus saw her, He called her over and said to her, ‘Woman, you are freed from your sickness.’ 13 And He laid His hands on her; and immediately she was made erect again and began glorifying God.” Jesus often performed miracles to help people see that He was the Messiah prophesied in the Scriptures, such as in Isaiah 35:5–6, “Then the eyes of the blind will be opened and the ears of the deaf will be unstopped. 6 Then the lame will leap like a deer…” The sad thing is that people still missed who He was and allowed their hardened hearts to keep them blind to the Truth. It’s interesting that the woman’s physical problem was due to demonic powers that were destroying her body. Of course, not all physical issues are due to demonic forces at work, but in her case it was. Jesus showed her incredible compassion and healed her. Jesus did not have to call her to Himself, but He did. He not only called her close but also touched her as a beautiful display of His compassion for her. Jesus knows our needs and meets them.

Day 1

Jesus was still teaching His disciples and the thousands of people who had gathered together to hear Him. God had Luke record this in Luke 13:1–5, “Now on the same occasion there were some present who reported to Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. 2 And Jesus said to them, ‘Do you suppose that these Ga...

Day 2

Jesus often taught using parables. God had Luke record one in Luke 13:6–9, “And He began telling this parable: ‘A man had a fig tree which had been planted in his vineyard; and he came looking for fruit on it and did not find any. 7 And he said to the vineyard-keeper, ‘Behold, for three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree wit...

Day 4

Jesus had just healed the woman who had been doubled over for eighteen long years. This miracle, like all others, was absolutely mind-blowing. But there was one in the synagogue that day whose heart was so hard that he missed the incredible gift God had given this woman. God had Luke record this in Luke 13:14, “But the synagogue official, ind...

Day 5

Jesus knew that the synagogue official’s heart was so hardened that he had fallen into the trap of trusting in nothing more than empty religion. God had Luke record Jesus’ response in Luke 13:15–16, “But the Lord answered him and said, ‘You hypocrites, does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the stall and lead him ...

Day 6

As Jesus rebuked the synagogue official, He asked, “Does not each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the stall and lead him away to water him?” Jesus’ question was not complex or deep, but it was definitely to the point. Jesus wanted to know why someone could help an animal on the Sabbath, but they couldn’t help a person wh...

Day 7

Jesus had more to teach, and God had Luke record this in Luke 13:18–21, “So He was saying, ‘What is the kingdom of God like, and to what shall I compare it? 19 It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and threw into his own garden; and it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air nested in its branches.’ 20 And again He said, ‘To wh...
