Day 7

Scripture to Read: Revelation 3:11-13

As we close out this week, we find Jesus proclaiming in Revelation 3:11, “I am coming quickly; hold fast what you have, so that no one will take your crown.” When Jesus says He is coming “quickly,” it does not mean He’s coming in the immediate future, but it means that His coming will be sudden and unexpected. Again, this is another reference to the rapture of His church. We must be living for our Lord so we are ready to meet Him. Jesus also says the church must “hold fast what you have,” which meant that the church needed to stand firm in our Lord and to continue to walk in what Jesus said back in Revelation 3:8. The church must fulfill the gospel opportunities our Lord gives us (“I have put before you an open door”). The church must rely on God and His strength (“you have a little power”) and the church must walk in faithfulness to our Lord (“you have kept My word, and have not denied My name”). Jesus finishes by sharing His last word of exultation in Revelation 3:12-13. Jesus says He will make all who overcome “pillars in the temple.” From the Enduring Word Bible Commentary, we learn: “Pillars were a picture of strength, stability, and dignified beauty. The city of Philadelphia suffered from frequent earthquakes. When a building collapsed in an earthquake often all that remained standing were the huge pillars. Jesus offers us this same strength, to remain standing in Him when everything around us crumbles.” Stand firm in Him.

Challenge & Application

1. What did our Lord teach you today about the things we must continue in as we live for Him? 2. How are you standing firm in our Lord each day (Ephesians 6:10) and “holding fast” what He has given you?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

God has been teaching us a lot through His letters to the seven churches in Revelation, chapters 2 & 3. This week, we unpack what our Lord Jesus Christ wrote to the church in Philadelphia through John. As we start this week, we need to remember that our Lord Jesus spoke to all seven churches, instructing the churches (and all Christians) to r...

Day 2

In Revelation 3:7-13, Jesus addressed the church of Philadelphia. As we noted in yesterday’s devotion, the church in Philadelphia is one of the two faithful churches spoken well of by our Lord Jesus Christ. In Revelation 3:7, Jesus described His authority and that this letter is from Him; “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write:...

Day 3

As we read Revelation 3:8, Jesus reminds the church in Philadelphia that He sees and knows all of their works. Of course, this Word from our Lord is for us as well for He sees and knows everything we do each day. In Revelation 3:8, our Lord says, “I know your deeds. Behold, I have put before you an open door which no one can shut, because you...

Day 4

As we continue to examine Revelation 3:8, we see that Jesus says He has put an open door before the church. Many times in Scripture this “open door” refers to opportunities to share the gospel of Christ (1 Corinthians 16:8-9; 2 Corinthians 2:12). In Colossians 4:3 God led Paul to ask the church at Colossae to pray this for him: that God will ...

Day 5

As we continue to unpack Revelation 3:7-13, we need to know that the Believers in Philadelphia had encountered hardships for living out their faith. Jesus spoke of the people in Philadelphia who persecuted the Christians during that period. Jesus said, “Behold, I will cause those of the synagogue of Satan, who say that they are Jews and are n...

Day 6

As we finish up with Revelation 3:9 today, we also find that Jesus said He will make others know that He has loved us. One day Jesus will reveal to the entire world that we belong to Him. God led John to write this in 1 John 3:2 Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, ...
