Scripture to Read: 1 Corinthians 1:26
We read in 1 Corinthians 1:26, “For consider your calling, brethren, that there were not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble;” When we examine who we are, most of us, whether we like it or not, are pretty average. Most of us will never win a gold medal in the Olympics, we’ll never play a professional sport, we’ll never write a multi-million dollar movie or screenplay, we’ll never win the Nobel Peace Prize, we’ll never become a movie or television star, and the list could go on. As God led Paul to write, God allowed him to remind the believers in Corinth that they too were nothing the world was going to stand up and take notice of. But as Christians, when we consider who we are with Christ, then everything changes. The problem is that too many Christians still seek the approval of the world over honoring their King and Lord through their lives. God wants us to see ourselves as He sees us. God defines us through His Son and not by any measurement of the world. God says of us in 1 Peter 2:9, “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” God elevates us to a status that far exceeds anything the world could ever offer. Though the world may never notice us, God sees our full potential in Him through Christ—Don’t miss it.
Challenge & Application
How have you allowed the world to define you, and what has it cost you because you believed their lies?
How does God define us, and how will you cling to His definition so that you are a usable tool for Him?
