Day 6

Scripture to Read: 1 Corinthians 1:27–29

As God continued to have Paul write we read in 1 Corinthians 1:27–29, “but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, 28 and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, 29 so that no man may boast before God.” God had called the Christians in Corinth, and He is calling us, to look closely at our calling from Him. God wants us to remember that He did not choose us based on our strengths, talents, gifts, abilities, power, prestige, positions, or any other thing the world might consider important to be chosen. God chose us because He wanted the lost world to see that what it thinks is important is absolutely nothing, because true value and purpose can only be found through a surrendered life to Christ and therefore being filled with His Holy Spirit. This world places value on things that God considers nothing, empty, valueless, and even worthless in the realm of His kingdom. God does not want us chasing the things of this world or trying to impress Him with what the world thinks is important. We must come before our Lord humbly, for we have nothing to offer Him except our brokenness. That is why God reminds us in 1 Corinthians 1:29, “…no man may boast before God.” We have nothing to boast in except Christ. True value comes from Him alone.

Challenge & Application

What kind of things does the world consider valuable and important, and where does God see value? What has God shown you about the value He has in you and for you?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

The message of Christ being crucified and then defeating death three days later seems utterly foolish to those who are dead in their sins (Ephesians 2:1–3) because they have chosen to reject the message of the cross. That is the message God had Paul write in 1 Corinthians 1:18–19, “For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are per...

Day 2

God had Paul ask the following in 1 Corinthians 1:20, “Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age?” Then, God reveals through Paul that He has made the world’s wisdom look foolish. How did God do it? Well, He tells us in 1 Corinthians 1:21, “For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not ...

Day 3

God led Paul to tell us how the message of Christ is seen by the Jews and the Gentiles. We read in 1 Corinthians 1:22–23, “For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom; 23 but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness.” In the time when God had Paul write these words, the Jews were lookin...

Day 4

Today we read in 1 Corinthians 1:24–25, “but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.” As God led Paul to write, Paul knew how his life had been transformed by Christ, and he had seen man...

Day 5

We read in 1 Corinthians 1:26, “For consider your calling, brethren, that there were not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble;” When we examine who we are, most of us, whether we like it or not, are pretty average. Most of us will never win a gold medal in the Olympics, we’ll never play a professional sport, we’ll...

Day 7

God gives us a great reminder today as we read the following in 1 Corinthians 1:30–31, “But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, 31 so that, just as it is written, ‘Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord.’” First, God reminds us that He chose us long befor...
