Day 7

Scripture to Read: 1 Corinthians 6:19–20

God gives many warnings, words of encouragement and affirmation, commandments, and much more throughout His Word. As God had Paul write to the Christians in Corinth, God had him write this in 1 Corinthians 6:19–20: “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? 20 For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.” As we know, God had been lovingly rebuking the believers in Corinth who had been giving in to sexual immorality, but what God had Paul write in 1 Corinthians 6:19–20 can go way beyond just sexual sin. When we think about our body being the temple of the Holy Spirit, as Christians, it should wake us up to examining not only our sexual purity, but also how we are currently taking care of God’s temple. We must examine what we eat and why, what we drink, and again, why, and how we exercise the body God now lives in. Jesus paid an insurmountable price to open the door for us to be called holy, righteous, forgiven, redeemed, God’s children, and so much more. Though our bodies are temporary, we must care for them. Whether or not we want to admit it, our bodies belong to God. He bought them through the shed blood of Christ. We don’t have the right to do what we want with God’s property! Whatever it takes, start caring for God’s temple so you glorify Him and not feed your fleshly desires.

Challenge & Application

What needs to change about your current lifestyle so that you are properly taking care of God’s temple? Why is it important to take care of God’s temple, and why do so many Christians never even think about this?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

When we consider our freedom in Christ, we must be cautious not to allow our freedom to become a stumbling block to immature Christians, especially not to those who are still lost in their sin. Freedom through Christ is an incredible gift, but that freedom does not give us the right to use it in an ungodly or dishonoring way. As God led Paul ...

Day 2

God had Paul write this in 1 Corinthians 6:13, “Food is for the stomach and the stomach is for food, but God will do away with both of them. Yet the body is not for immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body.” We know the Christians in Corinth struggled with pride, and we know they needed guidance on how to deal with civil dis...

Day 3

God made it clear in 1 Corinthians 6:13 that just because we have a fleshly desire does not give us the right to follow through on that fleshly desire. Then, God had Paul write this in 1 Corinthians 6:14: “Now God has not only raised the Lord, but will also raise us up through His power.” In His perfect time, God the Father sent Christ (Galat...

Day 4

Remember that the Christians in Corinth had been allowing their fleshly desires to rule them. Therefore, if they had a sexual desire, they would fulfill that desire through a prostitute. God had Paul write this in 1 Corinthians 6:15: “Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take away the members of Christ and make...

Day 5

God never wants us to join ourselves to the things that our flesh longs for. God had Paul write this in 1 Corinthians 6:16–17, “Or do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body with her? For He says, “The two shall become one flesh.” 17 But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him.” Our flesh c...

Day 6

Sometimes, God makes it clear, so there’s no doubt about what He is commanding us to do. God had Paul write this in 1 Corinthians 6:18, “Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body.” Instead of running towards our sexual fantasies, God tells us clearly that we must run...
