Scripture to Read: 1 Corinthians 12:12–14
God led Paul to use the illustration of the body to help explain the use of the gifts given by the Holy Spirit. So, God had Paul write this in 1 Corinthians 12:12–14: “For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. 14 For the body is not one member, but many.” Our bodies have many parts. Each part of our body has a unique design and purpose. However, the different parts of our bodies still comprise just one body. The church, the body of Christ, is the same. The church is comprised of many diverse individuals, all of whom have surrendered to Christ as their Lord and Savior. Although the body of Christ comprises many people, it remains a single body. Some Christians come from Jewish descent, some are Gentiles, some are slaves in other parts of the world, and some are free. The awesome news is that every born-again believer has been baptized into one body by the Holy Spirit, and we all share that same Holy Spirit. Because we share the same Holy Spirit, God the Father has designed us to fulfill the works He created us to do (Ephesians 2:10). For the body of Christ to be healthy, each part of His body must fulfill the purpose God has designed for it.
