Day 4

Scripture to Read: 1 Corinthians 12:15–17

God created us in a very unique way. Our human body does not consist of just one part, but rather, it has many, some of which we can see, such as our arms and legs. Our body also has hidden parts, including our heart, lungs, and other organs within us. No single part of our body is any more important or less important than any other part. God had Paul write in 1 Corinthians 12:15–17, “If the foot says, “Because I am not a hand, I am not a part of the body,” it is not for this reason any the less a part of the body. 16 And if the ear says, “Because I am not an eye, I am not a part of the body,” it is not for this reason any the less a part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would the hearing be? If the whole were hearing, where would the sense of smell be?” Imagine if every part of our body could complain about its role and also become preoccupied with comparing itself to every other part of the body. Our bodies would become useless very quickly. But when we realize that is what we do as Christians, when we get caught up in comparing ourselves to other Christians, and then we begin to think less of ourselves as if we don’t really matter. It’s no wonder the church is not always healthy. When Christians fail to serve and fulfill the purpose God has designed for them, they hinder the work of Christ.

Challenge & Application

When Christians don’t fulfill their role in the body of Christ, what are some of the consequences? How can you help keep the body of Christ healthy and how can you help other Christians join in?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!
