Day 5

Scripture to Read: 1 Corinthians 12:18–21

Continuing with the illustration of the body, God had Paul write in 1 Corinthians 12:18–21, “But now God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as He desired. 19 If they were all one member, where would the body be? 20 But now there are many members, but one body. 21 And the eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you”; or again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” This is a great reminder that God has placed each and every part of our body exactly where He designed it to be and to carry out exactly what He designed it to do. That is why every part of our body is critically important because when one part of our body is broken or not functioning well, it affects our entire body. God has also called each Christian to a specific work to do within the body of Christ. That is why God gave us His Holy Spirit, so we would have all the gifts, power, faith, perseverance, and anything else we need to do what He has designed for us to do. As the body of Christ, we need each other, just like each part of our body needs the other parts in order to be healthy. We should never think that a fellow Christian is not needed. Every Christian has a role to fulfill, and for those who are unsure of their role, they need to discover it so they can help keep the body of Christ fulfilling God’s will.

Challenge & Application

What has God shown you about your role within His body and what do you need to do about it? If all Christians functioned in the body of Christ with the same heart and attitude as yours, how healthy would Christ’s body be?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!
