Day 3

Scripture to Read: Luke 11:24–28

Jesus wanted the crowd to understand that spiritual warfare is real. God had Luke record this in Luke 11:24–26, “When the unclean spirit goes out of a man, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, and not finding any, it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ 25 And when it comes, it finds it swept and put in order. 26 Then it goes and takes along seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they go in and live there; and the last state of that man becomes worse than the first.” Jesus showed the crowd that being freed from an evil influence was not enough. If the freed person remained empty/unfilled, the evil could return and bring them into a worse condition than they had been in before being set free. Jesus warned people that deliverance alone is not enough. There must be a spiritual transformation including confession of sin, repentance (turning to Christ as Lord), and being filled with God’s Holy Spirit. Then, God had Luke record this in Luke 11:27–28, “While Jesus was saying these things, one of the women in the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, ‘Blessed is the womb that bore You and the breasts at which You nursed.’ 28 But He said, ‘On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.’” Jesus noted that those who are blessed are those who hear and obey. Obedience reveals that a person has truly been transformed by the power and Spirit of God (James 1:22–25).

Challenge & Application

Why is a physical or emotional healing from God not enough for a person to remain free indeed? Why are those who hear God’s Truth and choose to obey God’s Truth truly the ones who are blessed?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Jesus continually fulfilled the Father’s perfect will each day. Nothing Jesus did was by accident and nothing He said was haphazard. God had Luke record this in Luke 11:14–20, “And He was casting out a demon, and it was mute; when the demon had gone out, the mute man spoke; and the crowds were amazed. 15 But some of them said, ‘He casts out d...

Day 2

Through the miracles He performed, Jesus showed people that He was God in the flesh. But even as He performed miracles, many still doubted. Since some of the people thought that Jesus cast out a demon by the power of another demon, Jesus then said this in Luke 11:21–23, “When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions ar...

Day 4

Jesus continued teaching, and what He said next probably shocked most of those there. God had Luke record in Luke 11:29–32, “As the crowds were increasing, He began to say, ‘This generation is a wicked generation; it seeks for a sign, and yet no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah. 30 For just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevite...

Day 5

Jesus used many illustrations in His teaching. God had Luke record this in Luke 11:33–36, “No one, after lighting a lamp, puts it away in a cellar nor under a basket, but on the lampstand, so that those who enter may see the light. 34 The eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye is clear, your whole body also is full of light; but when it ...

Day 6

Though Jesus had to rebuke the crowd several times, He loved them and sought to reach them so they’d understand He came to die for them. Luke even recorded this in Luke 11:37–40, “Now when He had spoken, a Pharisee *asked Him to have lunch with him; and He went in, and reclined at the table. 38 When the Pharisee saw it, he was surprised that ...

Day 7

Jesus wanted the Pharisees and lawyers to see the true condition of their hearts, so, God had Luke record the woes to the scribes, Pharisees, and lawyers in Luke 11:42–54. Jesus first pointed out that though they tithed, it was hypocritical because they neglected God’s justice and love. Jesus also rebuked them for striving to be revered and f...
