Day 4

Scripture to Read: Luke 12:11–12

Jesus did not want His disciples worried about being summoned before the well-educated of their day. God had Luke record in Luke 12:11–12, “When they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not worry about how or what you are to speak in your defense, or what you are to say; 12 for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.” Jesus’ disciples were men of trade and would not have been seen as educated. God had Luke record this in Acts 4:13, “Now as they observed the confidence of Peter and John and understood that they were uneducated and untrained men, they were amazed, and began to recognize them as having been with Jesus.” Jesus gave His disciples the promise that would have given them confidence that the Holy Spirit would give them the words they needed when they needed them. We can trust our Lord to do the same for us if we are ever persecuted and brought before a court of law. This does not excuse us from reading, studying, and memorizing the Word of God, but it is God’s promise for any persecuted follower of Christ when they are given the opportunity to testify of Jesus. God even had Paul ask the church in Ephesus to pray for him in Ephesians 6:19, “pray on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel.” Praying this for Christians daily is a must.

Challenge & Application

Why did Jesus give the disciples the promise of the Holy Spirit’s help when they faced persecution? How have you seen the Holy Spirit use you and give you what you needed when you needed it?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

In Luke 12:1–3, God had Luke record this for us, “Under these circumstances, after so many thousands of people had gathered together that they were stepping on one another, He began saying to His disciples first of all, ‘Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. ...

Day 2

Jesus continued to speak to His disciples, but again, everyone there would have heard the words of our Lord. God had Luke record in Luke 12:4–5, “I say to you, My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that have no more that they can do. 5 But I will warn you whom to fear: fear the One who, after He has killed, has aut...

Jesus also made it clear how precious every human is to God. God had Luke record in Luke 12:6–7, “Are not five sparrows sold for two cents? Yet not one of them is forgotten before God. 7 Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.” When anyone goes through hard times, they often...

Day 5

Jesus had just taught on not worrying about how they would respond when facing persecution, the need to be fully committed to God, and how God loved them deeply and would take care of them. Then, someone in the crowd asked a random question. We find this in Luke 12:13–15, “Someone in the crowd said to Him, ‘Teacher, tell my brother to divide ...

Day 6

Jesus warned against covetousness, then, Jesus said this in Luke 12:22–23, “For this reason I say to you, do not worry about your life, as to what you will eat; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. 23 For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.” Greed and worry are both incredible stumbling blocks for anyone. Greed ...

Day 7

Jesus then gave the solution to overcoming greed and worry, as God had Luke record this in Luke 12:21–34, “But seek His kingdom, and these things will be added to you. 32 Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom. 33 Sell your possessions and give to charity; make yourselves money belts which do...
