Scripture to Read: Luke 12:31–34
Jesus then gave the solution to overcoming greed and worry, as God had Luke record this in Luke 12:21–34, “But seek His kingdom, and these things will be added to you. 32 Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father has chosen gladly to give you the kingdom. 33 Sell your possessions and give to charity; make yourselves money belts which do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near nor moth destroys. 34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Seeking God and His kingdom first means changing our mindset. God tells us in Romans 12:2, 2 Corinthians 10:3–5, Ephesians 4:23, Philippians 4:8, Colossians 3:1–4, and in many other Scriptures where our minds must be focused to have clean, clear thoughts that honor our Lord and King. God knows that our minds are incredibly powerful and that our unprotected thoughts can lead us down a path of destruction quite quickly. What we seek after is what our hearts truly treasure and cherish. This connection is a fact. If we regard any material possessions as our treasure, then our heart has been set here and not on the things of God. All that we have is a gift from God (James 1:17); therefore, it is not for us to hoard what we’ve been so richly given but to seek God’s face on how He would have us use and give away what He has so graciously stewarded us with. We must choose wisely when it comes to our heart’s treasure.
