Day 7

Scripture to Read: Luke 18:16-17

God showed us yesterday that everyone is welcome to come to Christ; therefore, we must continually invite everyone to humbly come before Christ, surrender to Him, and receive all He has to offer them. God had Luke share this in Luke 18:16–17, “But Jesus called for them, saying, ‘Permit the children to come to Me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 17 Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all.’” Jesus had to lovingly correct the disciples. While the disciples thought they were doing the right thing, Jesus told them that all children were welcome and that each of them matters in God’s kingdom. Jesus wanted them and everyone else to understand that no one should be hindered from coming to Him and that no one should be treated as too small, weak, or unworthy to come. Jesus reiterated the point that God’s kingdom is received by people with childlike humility and faith. God’s kingdom can never be accessed by people who think they can earn their way there. This teaching is so important because every false religion teaches that God’s kingdom is only reachable by man’s good works, man’s qualifying qualities, and his spiritual resume. But true life in Christ can only be found when someone stops trying to control, impress, or qualify themselves. Entering God’s kingdom has never been about status or achievement. God the Father, through Christ our Lord, welcomes those who are humble of heart and repentant.

Challenge & Application

Why did Jesus have to lovingly correct the disciples, and what do you learn from His loving rebuke? How are you sharing Christ with others and helping them see that Christ welcomes all who humbly come before His throne of grace?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

This week, we’re starting by examining prayer. Prayer should be, for all Christians, a normal part of our daily lives. We should be in such intimate fellowship with our Heavenly Father, through our Lord Jesus Christ, that prayer comes just as easily as breathing. Now, if prayer is still difficult for you, don’t worry because God even tells us...

Day 2

Jesus began to lay out the parable for the people He was teaching. We read in Luke 18:2–5, “In a certain city there was a judge who did not fear God and did not respect man. 3 There was a widow in that city, and she kept coming to him, saying, ‘Give me legal protection from my opponent.’ 4 For a while he was unwilling; but afterward he said t...

Day 3

As He taught the parable about the unjust judge, Jesus then shared this in Luke 18:6–8, “And the Lord said, ‘Hear what the unrighteous judge *said; 7 now, will not God bring about justice for His elect who cry to Him day and night, and will He delay long over them? 8 I tell you that He will bring about justice for them quickly. However, when ...

Day 4

Jesus continued teaching through parables, and the next parable concerns a Pharisee and a tax collector. God had Luke record the following in Luke 18:9–12, “And He also told this parable to some people who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and viewed others with contempt: 10 ‘Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharis...

Day 5

We have examined the prayer of the Pharisee, and now we read what Jesus shared about the tax collector’s prayer in Luke 18:13–14, “But the tax collector, standing some distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was beating his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, the sinner!’ 14 I tell you, this man went to his h...

Day 6

God led Luke to record many of the ministries of our Lord Jesus Christ, and as we learned yesterday about the Pharisee and the tax collector, we saw that the tax collector was “justified” before God the Father because of his humble, repentant heart. Then, Luke recorded this in Luke 18:15, “And they were bringing even their babies to Him so th...
