Day 1

Scripture to Read: Luke 19:28-31

Jesus had finished teaching His disciples the parable of the servants who obeyed their master and the one who did not. Then, God had Luke record in Luke 19:28: “After He had said these things, He was going on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.” Jesus knew His time on earth was coming to a close, so He set out for Jerusalem knowing He would lay down His life for all mankind. Jesus knew the Father’s perfect will, and He knew He came to fulfill it. Luke then recorded this in Luke 19:29–31: “When He approached Bethphage and Bethany, near the mount that is called Olivet, He sent two of the disciples, 30 saying, ‘Go into the village ahead of you; there, as you enter, you will find a colt tied on which no one yet has ever sat; untie it and bring it here. 31 If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of it.” God is definitely a God of detail, and we see here how detailed Jesus was in His instructions with the two disciples. Those two disciples had no doubt where they were headed, what they were looking for, or what they were to say if anyone asked them what they were doing. Often, we feel that God’s will is hard to determine or that God is keeping it hidden from us, but this is a lie from the enemy. In the New Testament alone, there are over 226 specific verses about God’s will—that alone should motivate us to know and obey them.

Challenge & Application

What do we see about our Lord’s instructions to the two disciples, and why is this important? Since there are over 226 NT Scriptures on God’s will, what should this motivate you to do, and why?

Jesus did not come for that reason, but He came to set the spiritual captives free. But the people were still incredibly excited about their King; of course, it was for th...
