Day 3

Scripture to Read: Luke 19:35-36

Jesus’s ministry was drawing to a close, and He knew what He had to do to pay the price for all mankind’s redemption. God then had Luke record this: Luke 19:35–36 “They brought it to Jesus, and they threw their coats on the colt and put Jesus on it. 36 As He was going, they were spreading their coats on the road.” The two disciples brought the colt for Jesus to ride on as He entered Jerusalem. Jesus riding the colt fulfilled the prophecy in Zechariah 9:9, “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; He is just and endowed with salvation, humble, and mounted on a donkey, even on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” Many ancient rulers would enter cities by military force, riding horses and displaying their power. But Jesus, showing He was the promised King, entered humble and coming to offer salvation. The people spread their cloaks on the road, which was a display of respect for a king. It also symbolized the people’s willingness to place themselves and what belonged to them under Christ’s authority. To properly worship our Lord Jesus Christ, we must show Him all the honor, glory, and praise that He alone deserves. We must willingly lay before Him all He has entrusted to us and walk in complete submission to Him and His Word. He deserves all of our worship each day. We must continually thank Him for all He’s given us so we can lead others to know and follow Him.

We read in Luke 19:39–40, “Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Him,’Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.’ 40 But Jesus answered, ‘I tel...
