Day 1

Scripture to Read: Luke 9:1–2

In Luke 8, God had Luke record how Jesus healed the demon-possessed man, how He also healed the woman who had suffered from a twelve-year hemorrhage, and how Jesus raised Jairus’ daughter from the dead. But then, Jesus got the disciples ready to go and do what they had seen our Lord do. God had Luke record this in Luke 9:1–2, “And He called the twelve together, and gave them power and authority over all the demons and to heal diseases. 2 And He sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to perform healing.” Jesus had chosen His twelve, as recorded in Luke 6:12–16, but now He called them to empower them and then send them. God has empowered every follower of Christ by giving us His Holy Spirit within us. God tells us 2 Peter 1:3–4, “seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. 4 For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.” We’ve been given so much through Christ and His Holy Spirit. That is why God reminds us in 1 Peter 4:10, “As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.” We must each fulfill the ministries God has called us to.

Challenge & Application

When God called and you surrendered to Christ as Lord, when did you realize all He gave you and how are you serving Him? What special gifts has God given you, and how do you continue to see those gifts grow and mature through you?
