Day 4

Scripture to Read: Luke 9:10–11

We get to serve our Lord every day because God has told us in Ephesians 2:10, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” So, we have good works to accomplish every day for our Lord. When we walk in those good works, it is always exciting to share with others how God chose to use us that day, and how He was honored and glorified through our willingness to walk in obedience to Him. When the disciples returned from doing all that Jesus sent them to do, God had Luke record this in Luke 9:10–11, “When the apostles returned, they gave an account to Him of all that they had done. Taking them with Him, He withdrew by Himself to a city called Bethsaida. 11 But the crowds were aware of this and followed Him; and welcoming them, He began speaking to them about the kingdom of God and curing those who had need of healing.” The disciples came back ready to tell Jesus all that had happened. But note what Jesus did, He sought to get them away for a little rest and refreshment. When we serve our Lord well, God also desires that we be refreshed and renewed in Him. We must sometimes retreat, and it may not need to be for a long time, but just enough to be refreshed and renewed by our Lord. A major part of that rest, refreshment, and renewal happens in our daily quiet times as we spend time with our Lord.

Challenge & Application

Why do we so enjoy sharing with others how God used us to carry out His good works for His glory, honor, and praise? Why is rest, refreshment, and renewal so important as we serve our Lord each day?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

The disciples knew what they were to do, and God had Luke tell us this in Luke 9:6, “Departing, they began going throughout the villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.” The disciples did not question what Jesus had sent them out to do, and as followers of Christ, we must carry out the mission He has called each of us to as well...

Day 7

Peter had just proclaimed that Jesus was the one true Messiah sent by God the Father.
