Day 3

Scripture to Read: Luke 9:6–9

The disciples knew what they were to do, and God had Luke tell us this in Luke 9:6, “Departing, they began going throughout the villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere.” The disciples did not question what Jesus had sent them out to do, and as followers of Christ, we must carry out the mission He has called each of us to as well. Jesus made the mission He has for us to carry out so clear in Matthew 28:19, Acts 1:8, and Matthew 22:35–40. We must be making disciples of Christ, which means to lead people to know and follow Christ as their Lord and Savior. We are to be witnesses for Him daily as we share Him with the people God brings across our paths each day. We do this because we truly love God with all we are and have and we truly love our neighbor as ourselves. We are able to do all of this because God has given us His Holy Spirit, and through His power, we accomplish all that God has called us to be part of for His glory, honor, and praise. When God’s children walk in obedience to Him, the lost world takes notice, even though they cannot fully comprehend what is happening or why. That is why God had Luke record this about Herod in Luke 9:7, “Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was happening; and he was greatly perplexed…” Herod was receiving various reports, so he sought to meet Jesus, but the time had not yet come for that to happen.

Challenge & Application

Without question, the disciples went and did what Jesus sent them to do. How are you doing the same, and if not, why not? Why does a lost world take notice when believers are walking in obedience to Matthew 28:19, Acts 1:8, and Matthew 22:35–40?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

When we walk in those good works, it is always exciting to share with othe...
