Scripture to Read: Luke 9:43–45
God then had Luke record this in Luke 9:43–45, “And they were all amazed at the greatness of God. But while everyone was marveling at all that He was doing, He said to His disciples, 44 ‘Let these words sink into your ears; for the Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men.’ 45 But they did not understand this statement, and it was concealed from them so that they would not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask Him about this statement.” We see how God allowed Luke to record the people’s reactions to Christ’s handiwork. The people were amazed and in awe of God’s power. If we’re not careful, we can miss God’s miraculous power at work in and through us every day. We can get so focused on this physical world that we miss how God is working in the spiritual world and how we must be prepared for the spiritual world each day (Ephesians 6:10–18). That is why God reminds us in Colossians 3:1–4 to keep our minds constantly set on the things above, not on the things of this earth. Then, Jesus reminded the disciples again of what was inevitable: He must be delivered into the hands of godless men. We must remember too that the word of our God does us no good unless we let it sink down into our heads and hearts. The disciples were still hoping for an earthly kingdom, so, their fleshly thoughts kept them from fully understanding what our Lord had come to do.

How have your fleshly thoughts gotten in the way of clearly seeing and hearing God’s Word for your life each day?
How are you choosing to set your mind on the things above and not on the things of this earth?
