Scripture to Read: 1 Corinthians 2:3–6
When we consider the Apostle Paul, one characteristic that never comes to mind is thinking of Paul as weak, timid, or fearful. But God had Paul share this in 1 Corinthians 2:3–5, “I was with you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling, 4 and my message and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, 5 so that your faith would not rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God.” The fact that God led Paul to share this reminds us that we all have struggles when it comes to sharing the gospel of Christ. God had Paul tell all Christians that he went to Corinth, knowing his own weaknesses and feeling timid and fearful. God also had Paul explain that the message he shared was simple, but even though it was simple, Paul relied on the power of the Holy Spirit to use him for God’s glory and purpose. As God used Paul, God filled him with His Holy Spirit and Paul humbled himself. God’s Spirit demonstrated His power through Paul, and the people of Corinth placed their faith in Christ and His power. We read in 1 Corinthians 2:6, “Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are mature; a wisdom, however, not of this age nor of the rulers of this age, who are passing away.” God had Paul remind the believers that when he spoke with them, he spoke with words of wisdom, knowing he gave them Christ, for He is wisdom.
