Scripture to Read: Luke 4:13
Our Lord gave us His perfect example of how to be prepared for the temptations we face each day. Some might think that Jesus would not have to face any more temptations, but God had Luke write in Luke 4:13, “When the devil had finished every temptation, he left Him until an opportune time.” The devil had finished for the moment, but he definitely was not done. The devil was definitely looking for more opportunities to tempt Jesus, and as followers of Christ, the devil is always looking for opportunities to attack us through various temptations. God reminds us of this as He had Peter write in 1 Peter 5:8, “Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” We have to be disciplined, alert, and cautious at all times. Just as we have learned so far this week, we must be prepared for the battles we face each day. God does not want us to be unwise. God tells us in Ephesians 5:15–17, “Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, 16 making the most of your time, because the days are evil. 17 So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” Being careful means that we choose to live this life honoring our Lord, walking according to His purpose, and relying completely on His courage which He provides through His Holy Spirit within us. We also choose not to hang with those who tolerate and enable evil.
