Scripture to Read: Colossians 3:10–11
God clearly commands us to lay aside the deeds of our flesh, but the beauty of our Heavenly Father is that He never commands us to put something aside without also telling us what we must put on and live like. God had Paul write this in Colossians 3:10–11, “and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him— 11 a renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman, but Christ is all, and in all.” As we saw in the devotion yesterday, God made it clear what we must take off, or put aside. Still, today He tells us what we must have put on because of Christ in us. We have a “new self” and our new self is being daily renewed as we grow in intimacy with our God and King and become more like Him. We are to be imitators of Him (Ephesians 5:1–2). This renewal is only possible because of Christ living in us through His Holy Spirit. God makes us new and continually, daily sanctifies us (makes us holy, righteous, pure, spotless, clean). God the Spirit gives us all we need to be able to walk in obedience to all that God the Father has commanded us to do and be. This renewal is available to everyone who surrenders to Christ as Lord, no matter a person’s race, gender, culture, background, status, or anything else that this world might define us by.
