Day 7

Scripture to Read: Colossians 3:17

The section of Scripture God has had us focus on in these devotions over the past 6 days has taught us what our lives must look like if we have truly surrendered to Christ as Lord. We will not do this perfectly, but we ought to be maturing so that Christ’s characteristics are ever growing in and through every area of our lives. That is why God had Paul write this in Colossians 3:17, “Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.” God did not, and still does not, want any of us to miss the fact that our lives should look different from those who are still lost in their sin—God clearly says that whatever we do, that includes everything, no matter what it might be. If we do something by sharing a spoken word, if we do something by accomplishing some task, again, no matter what it is, we must do it in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, being ever mindful that we are completely dependent upon Him in everything we do and say. That also means that those around us should be able to see the difference in our lives in comparison to those who do not have Christ. We should look, sound, and act differently in our jobs, at school, in our homes, in our relationships, and the list could go on. God gives us His Holy Spirit to be able to do what He’s commanded. We just need to obey Him.

Challenge & Application

When you consider your life each day, how are you choosing to do everything in the name of Christ so that you represent Him well? Would the people you work with, go to school with, live with, and are friends with describe you as a Christ follower? Why or why not?

Don’t forget to pray using the A.C.T.S. (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication) method!

Day 1

Through Christ, all Christians have been given so much; therefore, we must make the daily decision to passionately pursue Him and His Word. Day 2

Christ lives in every Christian through His Holy Spirit. Because Christ indwells us, God tells us in Colossians 3:5–7, “Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry. 6 For it is because of these things that the wrath of God will come upon the so...

Day 3

The deeds of our flesh are extremely ugly, selfish, prideful, and hurtful to ourselves and to anyone they impact. God wants us to act like Him and not fall prey to our old way of life before Christ was our Lord. God tells us today in Colossians 3:8–9, “But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech fro...

Day 4

God clearly commands us to lay aside the deeds of our flesh, but the beauty of our Heavenly Father is that He never commands us to put something aside without also telling us what we must put on and live like. God had Paul write this in Colossians 3:10–11, “and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the...

Day 5

God told us we must put on the new self, but then God led Paul to give specifics on what that new self should look like. God had Paul write in Colossians 3:12–14, “So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving ea...

Day 6

God knows we live in a troubled and sin-filled world, and because we do, there are times we can feel overwhelmed by all of the evil. The world is the way it is because of sin, so, God had Paul write this in Colossians 3:15–16, “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let th...
