Scripture to Read: Colossians 3:15–16
God knows we live in a troubled and sin-filled world, and because we do, there are times we can feel overwhelmed by all of the evil. The world is the way it is because of sin, so, God had Paul write this in Colossians 3:15–16, “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” To be fully submitted to Christ means we no longer allow this world to dictate how we feel. We adhere to God’s Word and let the peace of Christ rule. His peace is that incredible calm that all of us have when we walk daily with Christ and experience that deep intimacy with Him. That peace then becomes the controlling factor in our hearts as we make decisions each day and also answer questions that arise for ourselves and for others. God then reminds us that we have indeed been called as members in His body, the body of believers, which we also know as the church. Then, as we walk in His peace, we also choose to be thankful to God always for all things because we know He is sovereign over all (Ephesians 5:20). We must also choose to have God’s Word dwelling in our hearts and minds, permeating every part of our being. Then we can teach God’s Truth and disciple one another with His wisdom.
